John Levique Pirate Days

John’s Pass – Madeira Beach

May 2026

Honoring the pioneer who discovered John’s Pass after the hurricane of 1848. Pirate ships battle and invade the Pass with special events: Pirate Ball, Boat Parade and Invasion, Kid’s Costume Contest, Live Music, Live Reenactments, Food Court and Arts and Crafts Show.

The origins of John Levique Pirate Day are somewhat obscure, but it is believed to have been started in the late 20th century as a lighthearted tribute to the region’s pirate history. The day is marked by festivities, including parades, costume contests, treasure hunts, and themed parties. Participants often dress up as pirates, complete with eye patches, bandanas, and swords, and indulge in activities like singing sea shanties and engaging in mock sword fights.

It also serves as a fun and quirky way for locals and visitors alike to come together and celebrate their community’s heritage
